Q. I see I’ve missed the boat picking up the Hanasco Sonic Electric toothbrushes on Amazon. Since I’m buying for two males, the pink won’t work and that is all that is left in stock. Is there anywhere else I can buy the black version? I’m willing to pay more!

A. You can once again buy the Hanasco Sonic Electric toothbrush in black, but rather than paying more, you will now be paying less. If you want to try a sonic toothbrush, or already have a Hanasco toothbrush and want to buy more brushheads, read on because the offer is even better now than it was back in October when I first reviewed the product.
The Hanasco Sonic Electric Toothbrush in black is back in stock on Amazon, packaged with 8 brushheads (rather than the standard 2 brushheads) and a hard travel case for only $29.99. This is only $2 more than before and you get 6 additional brushheads and a travel case. Getting 8 brushheads means you won’t need to buy brushheads for at least 2 years as they typically last at least 3 months each. (It’s nice to not have to worry about buying more brushheads until 2024!)
If you already have a Hanasco toothbrush, a 4-pack of brushheads sells for $9.95 so 8 brushheads would cost about $20 + tax and shipping. With this special package, for only $10 more you not only get the 8 brushheads, you get a case and a spare toothbrush you can give to a friend or family member. You could also keep it in reserve for traveling (when the hard case will come in handy) or use it at a second home. I know if I needed brushheads I would buy this package instead and get the extra toothbrush and case. I was actually quite impressed with the case, which has a compartment for 2 brushheads as well as the toothbrush itself. Having just returned from a trip where I took my Hanasco toothbrush with me, I wish I would have had the case to protect it and make it easy to pack in my suitcase.
For those who may have missed my previous columns about sonic electric toothbrushes, I have used them for over 20 years and am a huge fan. They use sonic vibrations to clean your teeth and gums very effectively and it makes them feel like they were just cleaned at the dentist. The difference really must be experienced to be appreciated and once you have tried it, you won’t go back. The Philips Sonicare models are the industry standard and are indeed excellent, but the top-of-the-line, full-featured models sell for $150 to $300, which is a lot for a toothbrush. The Hanasco provides similar features and excellent performance for a fraction of the price, which makes them very easy to recommend.
In the past few months I received a few emails about replacement Hanasco brushheads. If you already have a Hanasco and just want the brushheads, they will be back in stock soon (and may be in stock already.) If you prefer the pink toothbrush, it is still available for $27.99 but you only get two brushheads.
